Statements posted online last week have claimed responsibility for the attacks. The post were made by a Muslim hacking group calling itself Izz ad-Din al Qassam Cyber Fighters.
The group has claimed it attacked the New York Stock Exchange, Bank of America and Chase in the last week and Wells Fargo, US Bank and PNC this week.
Well Fargo tweeted an apology to its users for service disruptions.
Izz ad-Din al Qassam Cyber Fighters mentioned the controversy about the anti-Islamic film “Innocence of Muslims” that has provoked riots and civil unrest throughout the Muslim world as a motivation for their attacks.
